A salvage title means an insurer wrote the vehicle off as a total loss, usually after a major accident, fire or flood. CarSift does not read title registries — what it does is show you the physical condition evidence: an AI condition score, panel-level findings and, where a partner mechanic has inspected the car, their certified findings. Always ask the seller for the registration card and accident history alongside the CarSift report.
Can AI really detect a repainted panel?
Computer vision is good at spotting the visual consequences of repair work — panel misalignment, uneven gaps, texture and finish differences between adjacent panels — and CarSift flags these on the report. It is evidence, not a laboratory paint-depth test. When the stakes are high, add a certified partner mechanic audit for an in-person check.

How long does a CarSift inspection take?
The capture itself is nine photos — the VIN plate plus eight angles around the car — which most people finish in a few minutes. The AI analysis runs immediately after you submit and returns your score in the same session. A certified partner mechanic audit is scheduled with the mechanic and takes as long as their in-person inspection needs.
Do I need to be present with the car, or can a seller send me a report?
You need physical access to the car to run a scan, because the report is built from real photos of that vehicle. A seller can run the scan themselves and share the resulting report page with you — every report lives at a public vehicle page tied to the VIN, so you can read the score and summary without an account.
What's the difference between an AI scan and a mechanic-verified report?

Yes. The scan is based on photographs of the vehicle body, so it works on any make or model, including GCC-spec cars and imports. The report identifies the vehicle from the VIN plate you capture at the start of the flow.
How is the Vehicle Health Index score calculated?
Every vehicle starts at a perfect 10.0. The AI reviews all eight angles and deducts points for each anomaly it finds — scratches, dents, sand wear and panel misalignment — with heavier deductions for more structural findings. Scores are shown to one decimal between 1.0 and 10.0: 8.0 and above is Excellent, 5.0 and above is Fair, below 5.0 is Needs attention.
